Tomorrow I will travel to Umeå where the annual conference of the International Society for Cultural History takes place next week. The theme of the conference is the history of emotions, ”Senses, Emotions and the Affective Turn – Recent Perspectives and New Challenges in Cultural History” to be more precise. My own presentation is titled ”Emotions and Nationalism in a 19th-century Family Network”. I will discuss the Tengström family and how their emotional relationships intertwined to their nationalistic activities and self-construction. I also reflect on the applicability of the concept of ”emotional communities” in my study. By the way, one of the key notes is Barbara Rosenwein, the developer of this quite fashionable concept.
